Kodaikanal is one of the coolest places which located in the South India. It is located in the southern corner of the Palani hills which belongs to Dindigul District. Kodaikanal is popularly known as the Princess of Hill stations. The temperature is normally around 20 degree Celsius during summer and in winter it is even less, below 17 degree Celsius. The suitable time for the visitor to enjoy the very chill weather is to visit Kodaikanal during September to October and April to June. But Kodaikanal is a cool and pleasant place which can be visited at any time.

    Kodaikanal – Princess of Hill Stations – How to get here?

    Kodaikanal is located in the southern part of the central area of the Palani Hills, in the Western Ghats. It is situated at an altitude of about 2,133- meters in height and it covers an area of 21.45 square kilometers. It was established by American missionaries in 1845 as a place of refuge from the heat of the plains. This town is famously known as a tourist spot and a honeymooner’s paradise. Its natural beauty, breathtaking imageries and pleasant climate has attracted people from all over.

    Kodaikanal can be quickly reached from Madurai which is the closest to the hill - just 135 kilometers from Madurai. It can also be reached from cities like Trichy (200 kilometers) and Coimbatoire (170 kilometers). In case of train travel, the closest railway stations are Palani Railway Station (64 kilometers and situated north of Kodaikanal, and Dindigul Railway Junction (100 kilometers and situated east of Kodaikanal) east. Currently there is a short-cut road available from Periyakulam to Kodaikanal via Kumbakarai, but it is yet to be completed.

    Those intending to travel by car or bus to Kodaikanal, will find the best ride to be one that takes them across the Western Ghats. The Ghats is a place of scenic natural beauty and what better way to experience this than through a travel down the long winding road, which gives a breathtaking view of its awesome beauty.
